Apps That Still Support Intel Macs
Intel Macs still work, but apps are starting to move on. Here's what's still available for file and media work, checked in October 2026.
Quick Answer
- ✓macOS 26 Tahoe is the last macOS for Intel Macs. Apple confirmed this at WWDC 2025, and macOS 27 is Apple silicon only.
- ✓Your Mac keeps working, and security updates continue for now, but new app versions are starting to require Apple silicon.
- ✓Still on Intel: FileHop, HandBrake, Permute 3, Compresto, FilePane, UniConverter and others below. Leaving: Permute 4, Tangerine and Adobe's v27 video apps.
Intel Mac or Intel app? They're different problems
An Intel Mac is the computer. Apple said macOS Tahoe would be the final release for Intel Macs, and Apple's macOS 27 list contains only Apple silicon models. Tahoe was still getting updates in late October 2026, and Apple hasn't given an end date. Estimates you may see elsewhere are guesses.
An Intel app is software built for Intel chips, running on Apple silicon through Rosetta. Apple says macOS 27 is the last version to support Rosetta broadly. That affects Apple silicon owners, not Intel Macs. Separately, Mac App Store developers can now drop Intel support for apps that require macOS 13 or later, which is why more apps are leaving.
How to check an app on your Intel Mac
Before buying or updating, take a minute to check.
Check your chip
Choose Apple menu > About This Mac. If it says Processor with Intel, you have an Intel Mac.
Read the requirements
Look for Intel, or a universal build, on the app's site or App Store page. Watch for phrases such as Apple silicon required or M1 or later.
Don't auto-update blindly
A major version can drop Intel. Permute 4 did this, so Intel users stay on Permute 3.
Keep the installer
Save installers for older versions of apps you rely on, and keep a backup of your license keys.

Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Media Encoder and Audition v27
Adobe says version 27.0 will require Apple silicon. Version 26.x remains available for Intel Macs.
Tangerine
This new file converter needs an M1 or later Mac.
