What You Can Do

Three blur styles

Blur, Gaussian or Pixelate, with intensity you can set for each mask.

Shape the mask

Rectangle, rounded rectangle or ellipse, with softness to feather the edge.

Invert the mask

Blur everything except one area to pull attention to a subject.

Set a time window

Each mask has a start and end time on its own timeline lane, so it appears only when needed.

Use several masks

Stack masks for several plates or faces, or chain short ones to follow something that moves.

Export at full quality

MP4, MOV or WebM up to 4K, with hardware encoding where your computer supports it.

What It Doesn't Do

Automatic blur tools are stronger for some jobs. Here is what to expect from FileHop.

  • There's no face or license plate detection. You place each mask by hand.
  • There's no motion tracking. A mask stays fixed for its time window, so a moving subject needs several short masks.
  • FileHop isn't a legal redaction product. Check your jurisdiction's rules, and review the export frame by frame before sharing sensitive footage.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I blur part of a video for free?

Open the video in FileHop's editor, add a blur mask, position it, set its start and end time, and export a new copy.

Can I blur a license plate in a video?

Yes. Place a mask over the plate. If the car moves, split the moment into several short masks that follow it.

Does the blur follow moving objects automatically?

No. FileHop has no motion tracking, so masks are fixed in position for their time window.

Can it detect faces automatically?

No. Masks are placed by hand. If you need automatic face detection, a dedicated service such as blur.me is a better fit, though it requires uploading your footage.

Blur or pixelate: which should I use?

Use a strong setting of either for sensitive details, and check the result at full size. Light blur on small text can sometimes stay readable, so favour high intensity.

Can a blur be reversed?

The export replaces the original pixels in that area, but weak blur can leave enough detail to guess at. Use strong settings for anything sensitive.

Is my video uploaded?

No. Editing and export run on your computer, and the original file isn't changed.

Can I blur everything except one area?

Yes. Turn on Invert for the mask.
